“The Magic of Ordinary Days”

In him we live and move and have our being. (Acts 17:28)

I just saw  “The Magic of Ordinary Days”, a Hallmark film. It’s the story of an unwed young educated woman from Denver, Colorado, who her father pressures into an arranged marriage during WWII. She’s forced to marry a stranger, a farmer who will raise her baby as his own. This brought to mind Mary, who didn’t know Joseph either.

If only we could all see the magic in ordinary days, too. Keri Russell, the lead actress, struggled with forgiveness, perseverance, faith, charity, love, and patience.  She continually challenged her now-husband, actor Skeet Ulrich, by withdrawing into herself and refusing to give him grace.

Finally, the baby is born, and it’s the joy on the farmer’s face that convinces her he is indeed earnest in his love for the baby; she softens her heart, and they become a family.

As we wait for the birth of Baby Jesus let’s all soften our hearts and let in a huge wave of love, compassion, grace and forgiveness. Because “In him we live, move and have our being.”
