Marble Women's Ministry Lent Blog 2026

This Book like no Other

God wooed and won my decimated heart through His tender and powerful Word. The night was November 15, 1975, the setting Bethlehem Church, Randolph, NJ, the occasion, a concert by vocalist, Evie Tournquist. Among the Scriptures the pastor shared that night were John 10:10 and Revelation 3:20.

The Lord Jesus spoke directly to me through those verses and within me there was a humble crumbling and timid though intentional surrender to Him. I asked Him to come into my heart and take over. To make me completely clean in His sight by His blood. To give me the abundant life I could not find on my own.

God’s Word has been my sustenance ever since. My soul’s daily bread and the light for each step along the narrow freeing path of Life with the Savior.

This Book like no Other

Reaches me
and teaches me,
Trains me
Sustains me,
Reveals the right road
Lifts and lightens my load,
Tends and binds up my wounds
Makes me sound, makes me whole

It protects me
Yes, and corrects me
Warns me of sin
Purifies deep within,
Bids me come as I am
Warmly welcomes my tears,
Breathes comfort
Speaks peace to my fears

It’s my hope’s sure foundation
Unchains me from lies,
God’s Word feeds my soul
Builds me up, makes me wise,
It’s the joy of my heart
For Your truths set me free!
Ever new, yet unchanging ~
Whole life-rearranging!

It awakens my praise
As I seek You, Your ways,
Trust Your promises, wisdom
Live within Your embrace,
When I don’t understand
Am confused by Your plan,
It gently reminds me
“Take hold of His hand”

I cherish each word
Etched for me by Your love,
Wield its power to demolish
Evil near and above,
Each day I drink full from
These life-giving springs
Savor their richness
Commune with my King

God spoke directly to me through Hebrews 4:12 on the morning of Wednesday, March 7, 1973, and I continue to go back to that moment of divine intervention/healing. Thank you for sharing.

My dear friend Karen I love your poetry and this one is no exception. It so beautiful to see how you pepper your poems time and again with your love for Jesus. It’s wonderful to find your poem on this blog.
In 1979 a friend invited me to attend a Sunday service at Marble Collegiate Church in NYC. It was a delight to hear Norman Vincent Peale preach. The scripture he referenced was Matthew 11:28-29
Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.
I believe his message laid seed for my acceptance of Jesus into my heart years later.
Praise God for the many ways each of us are drawn into a relationship with Him and how the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf in our daily walk with Him.

It is one of the most beautiful joys of my life to walk this pilgrim road with you as a sister-in-Christ, dear Lynda.

I hadn’t known of your visit so long ago to Marble Collegiate Church where the Word of God was sown in your heart as early stepping stones to a saving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

      Truly His Word is powerful!

Thank you for taking the time to read and respond here.

I know you celebrate the Resurrection everyday, but may Easter be extra glorious for you and Hank!
