Google AI, upon being asked “what does cultivating courage mean,” replied with this as one key aspect…
- “Baby Steps”: Cultivating courage one small step at a time, rather than requiring dramatic acts of bravery.
This reminds me of a book I read some time back by BJ Fogg titled Tiny Habits: The Small Changes that Change Everything that helped me learn that completing one small thing for my larger goal is enough for me.
In the Daily Announcements from my kid’s school, Fordham Prep High School in the Bronx, there is always a prayer at the end that helps ground me and serves as my one baby step or tiny habit each day to let God in. I hope today’s offering will help you in your journey as well.
TODAY’S PRAYER
As we come to the end of our week during this holy season of Lent, we are once again invited to pause and reflect on where and how God has been present to us and invites us to grow as we pray the Ignatian Examen.
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
I ask God to bring to my heart the moments this week when I felt closest to God’s presence.
I thank God for the times when I felt most alive and had the greatest sense of belonging to myself, others, or God.
I recall when I shared my gifts and received the gifts of others; when I fostered a loving community – at home, at school – whenever gathered with others.
In God’s loving presence, I ask to be made aware of the moments this week when I turned away from God, or others, or the community I am called to love.
I look forward in hope and pray for the grace to love and to be loved for who I am. And so we pray…
Come, Holy Spirit, fill our hearts, and enkindle in them the fire of your love. Help us to see ourselves and our actions with honesty and patience, open to the growth that you desire for us.
St. John the Baptist, pray for us
St. Ignatius, pray for us
In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen
