In the Garden

The beauty of the Lenten season includes longer daylight hours, the leaves on our trees and flowers begin to bud, and beautiful colors begin to emerge. The change of the season helps me to reflect on the beauty of my friendships with people and God as I walk through nature’s paths and gardens.

Preparing for your spring garden, large or small, requires gathering the proper gloves and tools, preparing the soil with compost, and rounding up your seeds and plants. Similar to your garden, there are friends that are there for you year in an out (perennials), seasonal friends (annuals), friends that keep us anchored (trees), and friends for the moment.

Then, there is God. A friend who is always with us through all of life’s twists, turns and the many uncertainties we cannot control.

Lent is like tending a garden. We must nurture ourselves and our friends, grow and strengthen our faith, in community with our brothers and sisters.

Colossians 3: 12

Therefore as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved,
clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility,
gentleness and patience.
