The Beginning

A destination one afternoon—
Cooper Hewitt Museum in NYC
anticipation to experience treasures offered
strangers upon entry
Michelle with teenage daughters Bella and Sophia
Marcie camera in hand on her own
both possessed passion for art, photography, strong family ties
circumstances promoted conversation
delightful moments over cups of tea
no inclination of what might unfold

every story of friendship unique
who knows why it begins
willingness to be open and take leaps
over time weaving sturdy fibers crucial
evolves into something precious
attachments widened to include girls’ brother Gideon
and sister Paloma—also artistic flair

both life journeys encountered sorrow and trauma
this friendship… valuable anchor
of understanding, faith, hope, and love

Proverbs 17:17 “A friend loves at all times; and a brother is born for a time of adversity.”

Romans 12:10 “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

These thoughts have at times too, been mine…It seems to me there is a Divine weaving involved, as I look back and marvel at some enduring, anchoring friendships in my life…that began like this one, so surprisingly

A lovely poem about a providential friendship…of two who truly “love at all times”

    Thank God for such friends!

  3. Thank you for sharing your poem on friendship and the connection with scripture. This brings much joy to my day.
