Day 3: Courage…

STYLE

For years, I have been an agenda keeper, the kind that maps out or makes a list of all the things I need to do each day.  I seemed to never finish all of the items on my list and would oftentimes feel disheartened by my agenda at the end of each day.  And I felt like a failure for not accomplishing the list.  I needed to jump off the agenda train in 2017….

I received two gifts this year, The The Happiness Planner and The Bullet Journal.  Both completely transformed the way I plan, make my to do lists, document moments of gratitude, collect my thoughts, set goals and celebrate successes.  Instead of going to bed feeling like a failure, I went to bed feeling focused and grateful.

What really happened was my return to journaling as a spiritual practice.  Here is a wonderful article on this…

From Guideposts, “Journaling as a Spiritual Practice”

This Advent, in the spirit of our theme, I share some quotes and scripture on courage to get you started on the spiritual practice of journaling…

“Nothing can dim the light that shines from within.” Maya Angelou

Whatever I have, whatever I am, I can make it through anything in the One who makes me who I am.  Philippians 4:13

Having hope will give you courage.  Job 18:11

“Courage is the first of human qualities because it is the quality which guarantees all the others.” Winston Churchill

“In whatever arena of life one must meet the challenge of courage, whatever may be the sacrifices he faces if he follows his conscience–the loss of his friends, his fortune, his contentment, even the esteem of his fellow men—each man must decide for himself the course he will follow. The stories of past courage can define that ingredient—they can teach, they can offer hope, they can provide inspiration. But they can not supply courage itself. For this each man must look into his own soul.” John F. Kennedy in Profiles in Courage

“Courage is not synonymous with fearlessness. On the contrary, it often means taking necessary action while afraid.”

Blessings to you,

Marcie Doll with the help of my Mom, Lynn
