SCRIPTURE:
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.
In spite of all that is going on in our world and in our lives, I want to experience peace more than anything. I want to be reassured that I can have peace regardless of what I feel.
When I think of peace, I’m reminded of a couple of verses from the bible that many of us are familiar with:
- Phil 4:7: If you do this (referring to being joyful and in prayer), you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will keep your thoughts and your hearts quiet and at rest as you trust in Christ Jesus. (Living Bible)
- Matthew 5:9: Happy are those who strive for peace —they shall be called the sons of God. (Living Bible)
Recently I heard a friend say that “peace is not the absence of conflict (in the outer world)… it is the assurance of our connection within to God; that is true peace… God is our peace.”
So where is peace for me today?
Is it like joy that if I give it away, it might come back to me (recently our Sr. Minister, Dr. Brown, preached on finding joy when we give it away)?
If that’s the case, maybe these are a start:
- When I make myself available to someone who needs my help or a prayer.
- When I make someone’s job easier, whether it is family, a neighbor or a co-worker.
- When I sit STILL in a quiet space to hear God.
However, it is found… God has promised it for us.
Perhaps this prayer can help us.

Thanks for sharing, Sandy. Peace begins with me and if I can just make a little effort I can find it, feel it, embrace it and share it! We need to find those quiet moments to listen for this peace that we all so long for. God has promised it to us and we know He keeps His promises.
