After all the gifts at Christmas are opened; parents, grandparents, and siblings oftentimes ask, what was the best gift you received…celebrities get asked on TV and commercials throughout Advent, show the excitement of receiving high-ticket items.   But we all have seen a young child playing more with the cardboard box than the toy inside.

My Mom shared the following with me:   Seven year old Bobby was asked in a survey what love means.  “Love is what’s in the room with you at Christmas if you stop opening presents and listen,” he said.  Wise beyond his years for sure!

We have probably experienced a time when someone says thank you for a gift, long after we thought they moved on to something else.  It may have been a scarf that was knitted, a stuffed animal that became a child’s favorite companion, a book about a far off place that inspired a love of history or travel, or a gift that sparked creativity in a child through art or dance.  In many cases, the gift you gave transformed the person in some way.
